"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable,  and perfect, will of God."   -Romans 12:2

How to Slay a Giant

Doubt the Doubt

There are only two spiritual kingdoms, and all of the people on earth serve one of them. Both kingdoms have their armies.

The first is the smaller one, the army of the Kingdom of Light. They worship and serve the true and living God: The Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and His Holy Spirit, who fills and empowers this small army in battle.

The second is the larger army of the Kingdom of Darkness. They serve a pantheon of idols, the greatest of which are pleasure, power, fame, money, pride, approval, greed, deceit, sexual lust, possessions, ease and comfort. Behind these idols are demons, and behind those demons is their dark overlord, Satan.

As is the case with all armies, the army of Darkness has it's champions. Like Goliath of old, some of them are huge, powerful, dressed in impressive armor, and carry large weapons. Filled with pride of power and achievement, they dare to spout out defiances against God, his armies, and his people.

What should you do when you encounter one of them?

Be like David of old. Don't run from the giant like most people do. Instead, observe your enemy.

As you look at him, do not be intimidated by his size: his titles, positions, or power. Though he is bigger and stronger than you, a shepherd boy, what is he compared to the infinite and all-powerful God who protects and empowers you? Smaller than an ant.

Do not be intimidated by his strength: His knowledge, skill, proficiency in math or science, degrees, or the big words he uses. What are these against the all-knowing wisdom of the Spirit of God who infills you?

Do not be intimidated when the enemy accuses you, and points out your weaknesses, past sins and faults. What are they against the blood and sacrifice of Jesus on the cross?

Do not be intimidated by his weapons: threats, ridicule and lies. What are they against your armor: the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the helmet of salvation, and the sure and steady footing that you have been given by the gospel of peace?

Finally, do not be intimidated by His armor: wickedness, arrogance, haughty pride, cruelty and clever deceit. What are they against the truth of God's word, Which is your shining sword? It is a powerful, living and active two-edged sword, so sharp that it pierces down to the division of soul and spirit and reveals the thoughts and motives of the heart. None of the enemy's armor can stand before it.

Instead, like David did, look at the enemy's head, for it is there that you will find the opening in the enemy's armor. Behind all of that armor, no matter how impressive it is, you will find bare flesh - a mere man whose mind is relying on simple false beliefs - false presuppositions. Just like David did, aim for that, because that is his weakness.

Consider the false presuppositions - the little lies that are in the enemy's head, behind his armor. You will find that behind all of the enemy's education, degrees, math, science, and the like, are some simple little false ideas. As you consider those ideas, do this:

Doubt the doubt.

Question the question.

Challenge the challenge of anyone who dares to defy the armies of the living God.

You will find that the simple ideas that are in your enemy's head, the false presuppositions that are behind everything he says and does, are weak, ridiculous and nonsensical. These are his great weakness, his Achilles heel, for they are the shaky foundation that he has built everything on.

Then, let the Spirit of God guide you. Carefully choose smooth, small stones from the brook: the precise truths from the Word of God that counteract those lies. But you MUST choose the right stones!

Then, do not be afraid, for God is with you! Run towards the enemy. You are aiming for the head: those ridiculous false presuppositions and beliefs. As you sling your small stone—a truth from the Word of God— let the Spirit of God guide your aim.

If you have chosen the right stone, then as that truth sinks into the enemy's head, he will fall like Goliath did, headfirst. If you have not, or your aim was a little off, you have more stones.

Yes, a little stone from God's word, a truth chosen and aimed with the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God, will slay a giant!
